Dones Mentores/Women Mentors is a non-profit association that works towards the eradication of sexist violence thought mentoring with a gender perspective. It was founded in 2017 in Barcelona, Spain, driven by the conviction that mentoring among women - especially women survivors of violence - is the most effective form of collective empowerment.Our mission is to bring women together and put their experience as resilient survivors at the service of other women suffering social vulnerability due to sexist violence. To this end, we build and support networks of specially trained mentors, who work with mentees in areas of social impact and in close collaboration with local and supralocal specialized care network services.At Dones Mentores/Women Mentors we complement specialized intervention towards sexist violence, both in the prevention and care phases, and in social restitution. We do it from a feminist approach, promoting social participation and horizontality. We have co-created a successful model inspired by the KVINFO Mentornetvaerk program of the Danish Center for Information on Gender.Despite being a young entity, our impact has already been recognized by both the Barcelona City Council (2020) and the SEBAP Valldejuli Award (2022) to the best social impact project in Catalonia. Currently, we collaborate with institutions, associations and women's care services in Catalonia, Madrid, Euskadi and Navarra.
